Piano Lessons & Math Tutoring
FAQ
-
Will Lessons be Remote or In Person?I prefer in person, especially for piano, with social distancing, since the tone and quality of playing and showing examples is lower quality over Zoom. School subjects over Zoom with a a webcam and shared materials is easier; however, in person is always better for communication.

What is in your Studio?I have two pianos: a Parlour Grand Mason & Hamlin and an upright cabinet grand Sohmer which are in tune and used for playing examples and duets. I also have rhythm instruments, and many different teaching method books which I tailer for each student. Also, I use the Oregon Music Teachers Association Syllabus materials for annual assessments and certification if the student or family desires. These help give goals and show progress.

What materials do you use for Math and SAT/ACT test prep? For math tutoring, I start with the students' textbooks and supplement with many other texts, websites, and teaching aids. I always do a basic math assessment and add materials to buikd missing math skills such as memorizing math facts and formulas. For SAT and ACT prep, I use Kaplan and College Board materials. I have taught week-long courses for standardized test prep and individualized instruction. For language arts students, I use their course materials and supplement with grammar, vocabulary and spelling workbooks.
